Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about how Boighor works, in plain language.
Getting Started
What is Boighor?
Boighor (বইঘর) means "book house" in Bengali. It's a free digital library built for readers in Bangladesh. Think of it like your local library, but online. You can browse books, borrow them for a short period, read them in your browser, and return them when you're done. No fees, no apps to download.
Do I need to pay anything?
Nope. Boighor is completely free. We're supported by donations and run by volunteers. You never pay to borrow or read. Ever.
How do I create an account?
Click "Join Free" or "Register" and enter your email. We'll send you a verification link; click it, set a password, and you're in. You can browse books without an account, but you'll need one to borrow.
Borrowing Books
How do I borrow a book?
Find a book you like in the catalog, open its page, and click the "Borrow" button. If a copy is available, you'll go straight to the reader and can start reading right away. If all copies are taken, you'll be added to the waitlist. We'll notify you when it's your turn.
How many books can I borrow at once?
You can have up to 3 books borrowed at the same time. This keeps the library fair so everyone gets a chance. Return one, borrow another. That's how it works.
How long can I keep a book?
Usually 7 to 10 days, depending on the book. You'll see the due date when you borrow. Need more time? You can request an extension once per week. No stress.
What if a book isn't available?
When you click "Borrow" and all copies are taken, you're automatically added to the waitlist. You'll see your position (e.g., #3 in line). When someone returns the book, the next person in line gets notified and has 48 hours to claim it. When it's your turn, we'll let you know.
Reading and Extensions
Where do I read my borrowed books?
Right in your browser. No app to install. Open Boighor on your phone, tablet, or computer, go to your dashboard, and click "Continue Reading" on any borrowed book. Your progress saves automatically so you can pick up where you left off.
Can I extend my borrowing time?
Yes. You can extend one book per week (the limit resets every Monday). Each book can only be extended once, even after the weekly reset. The "Extend" button shows up on your dashboard when you're eligible. We'll add a few extra days based on how much you've read.
How does the extension work?
We look at your reading progress: how many pages you've read and how many are left. Based on that, we add 1 to 3 extra days (minimum 2) so you have a fair chance to finish. It's automatic. Just click "Extend" when you see the button.
Returning Books
How do I return a book?
Go to your dashboard and click "Return Book" on the loan. That's it. The book is back in the library and ready for the next reader. If someone was waiting, they'll get notified automatically.
What happens if I forget to return?
We'll send you a reminder when your due date is close. If you miss it, the book gets returned automatically after the grace period. No late fees. No penalties. We'd rather you focus on reading than worry about due dates.
Are there late fees?
Never. Boighor has no late fees. Books are returned automatically if needed. We believe everyone deserves access to reading without financial worry.
Waitlist
How does the waitlist work?
When a book has no available copies, clicking "Borrow" puts you in line. First come, first served. You can see your position and leave the waitlist anytime. When a copy is returned, the next person gets an email (if they have notifications on) and has 48 hours to claim it. Miss the window? You stay in line; it goes to the next person.
How long do I have to claim a book?
48 hours. When it's your turn, we'll notify you. Log in, go to your waitlist or notifications, and claim the book. If you don't claim it in 48 hours, it passes to the next person. Don't worry. You stay in the queue for the next available copy.
Account Features
How do I change my password?
Go to Profile → Account Info → Change Password. Enter your current password, then your new one (twice to confirm). That's it. We'll send you an email to confirm the change.
How do email notifications work?
In Profile → Email Notifications, you can turn optional emails on or off. Things like loan reminders, waitlist updates, and book request status. Some emails we always send: account verification, password changes, when a waitlisted book is ready for you. You can't turn those off; they're important for your account and your place in line.
What is the Yearly Report?
A personal summary of your reading for the year, like Spotify Wrapped but for books. It shows how many books you read, your top authors, reading streaks, and more. You can view it from your dashboard, share it with friends, and even get a shareable card for social media. It's a nice way to see what you've accomplished.
What are Reading Resolutions?
Reading goals you set for yourself. Pick how many books you want to read and over what period (e.g., "12 books in 2025"). We'll track your progress automatically. You can have up to 3 active resolutions at once. Share them with friends, or keep them private. When you hit your goal or the period ends, we'll notify you and move it to your completed goals.
